Introduction I visited Poland on 3 occasions in 1994-6, each time to a factory in the south western city of Wroclaw (pronounced "Vrotswav") in Lower Silesia. All of my visits were in the winter, so I never had the benefit of seeing the city or its surroundings bathed in summer sunshine. Wroclaw is on the River Odra, which further downstream forms the border between Poland and Germany. The German name for the river is the Oder. With a population of over half a million, Wroclaw is one of the largest cities in Poland. Many of these photos were taken in and around the old historic city centre. I have not been back since 1996, but it is clear from various websites that the city has developed and prospered in more recent years. One such website that of Wroclaw City Council, www.wroclaw.pl (link opens in new window or tab). It includes a beautiful photo gallery of Wroclaw today and it was nice to see how many of the buildings and areas featured on this page have changed. All photos have been scanned from prints. Currently if you click on an image, a larger version will open in a new window, but I will be changing this when I update this page shortly. Photo Gallery
