When the ferry terminal was replaced in the 1980s, just one part of the old building was left standing - the old Entrance or Booking Hall.  When in use, it housed the ticket kiosks and turnstiles.  Nowadays, it is the visible front of the ferry terminal when approaching from land and until 2007 it housed a cafe, a gift shop and a tourist information centre.  In addition it leads into the newer ferry terminal building behind.  Exhibitions were frequently held in the hall and the final exhibition before it closed included about 30 photos that I took during the changes in the 1980s.

Mersey Ferries Memories
"An insight into the rich history of the Mersey Ferries through pictures and photographs".

Officially launched on 4th December 2006, the exhibition Mersey Ferries Memories remained in the old booking hall at Woodside Ferry until the tourist facilities closed in mid 2007.

About 30 photos that I took during the changes in the 1980s were featured in the exhibition including some that are published on these pages.  It seemed particularly apt that some of the photos that I took over 20 years ago to record the changes were on public display inside the very building that they depict.

Thanks to Carrie from Mersey Ferries for organising the exhibition and contacting me to use some of my photographs.

Mersey Ferries Memories Exhibition

The exhibition Mersey Ferries Memories was launched on 4th December 2006 in the booking hall at Woodside Ferry.  Originally it was to cover the history of Woodside, but it was expanded to cover the ferries more broadly.  About 30 photos that I took during the changes in the 1980s were featured in the exhibition including several that are published on these pages.  The pictures below were all taken on the day of the launch.
